Fadjar woven label

Fadjar carries my last name and echoes fajar, the Indonesian word for dawn. For me, it marks the beginning of creating something of my own.

I started with a simple wish: to make clothes I loved wearing, both for how they looked and how they felt. Through Fadjar, I explore how comfort and self-expression can come together—so you can feel at ease while feeling like yourself.

What She Wore, What She Changed

I wrote and illustrated a 40-page book exploring how fashion reflects and challenges the world around it. From 19th-century corsetry to contemporary sustainable design, I trace connections between clothing, politics, and women’s changing roles through the work of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Stella McCartney, and Vivienne Westwood.

03 / SCHOOL FASHION SHOWS

From Sketch to Runway

For my school’s fashion shows, I created a carousel-inspired outfit for an amusement park theme and a patchwork design for “Streetism.”

Bringing my sketches to the runway meant sharing something personal, waiting to see how others would respond. A pause before applause brought back my own discomfort with silence. That moment stayed with me, shaping the thinking behind To-Listen: giving people space matters as much as finding something to say.

04 / USC SCHOOL OF CINEMATIC ARTS SUMMER PROGRAM

Stories on Screen

At USC’s School of Cinematic Arts Summer Program, I worked on three short films, writing screenplays, directing, and taking on different roles on both sides of the camera. Each project gave me a new way to tell a story, and taught me how much filmmaking depends on listening to the people creating it with you.

BEHIND THE SCENES / ON CAMPUS

SHORT FILM / 01

The Outsider

MY ROLE: SCREENWRITER & DIRECTOR

Surrounded by seemingly confident filmmakers, a new student begins to see herself as a background character in everyone else’s story. Through inner monologue and quiet observations of campus life, The Outsider follows her first steps toward finding a creative voice—and discovering that looking closely can be its own beginning.

SHORT FILM / 02

The Wait

MY ROLE: PRODUCTION DESIGNER

Four siblings wait anxiously for a late-night arrival, struggling to stay quiet as every ticking clock, creaking floorboard, and unexpected doorbell raises the tension. The Wait turns an ordinary living room into a scene of suspense, building toward a playful reveal that puts their desperation into perspective.

SHORT FILM / 03

Same Seat

MY ROLE: DIRECTOR & SCREENWRITER

A single chair and a paper note connect a romance across time. Told without dialogue, Same Seat explores how a familiar place can hold the possibility of an unexpected connection.

REFLECTION

What I Learned

Behind the Camera

Making these films taught me how much a story can communicate before anyone speaks. Framing, lighting, props, and the rhythm of an edit all influence what an audience notices and feels.

Writing and directing also taught me to turn an idea into choices that actors and crew could understand and build on. I learned to explain my vision, listen to other interpretations, and adapt when a scene needed something different.
